Interim Kitchen

So once again it’s been a little while since we posted.  During that time, Amy has moved to live in Brentwood, Ben has taken over her old room in the Barn and Ben’s only room is now the Gym/Office space.

We’ve also added some finishing touches to the Nook & Amy’s room

We’ve also been able to make the kitchen/lounge in the Loft into a more habitable space courtesy of the long Jubilee Weekend.  Thanks Lizzie (I mean Your Majesty).

This still isn’t the final kitchen but we hope it will last about 5 years.  It’s the cheapest kitchen IKEA do and whilst it’s nice enough it was a bitch to put together so you’ll have to excuse the fact the some of the doors don’t quite line up!

We’ve put a little fridge/freezer into the space where a dishwasher will be going shortly and it’s got temporary combi oven/microwave and portable hob units.

That said, it’ll do the job if my Mum & Dad do need to live there for a bit after Dad comes out of hospital and for when Amy will live there after her lease in Brentwood finishes (probably from March 23).

The (almost) finished product

We've spent many a weekend over at Holly Loft during the past year & a bit but we are almost done -  we still have the en suites to install & we'll do a proper kitchen nearer the time when it's going to be properly occupied.

So be prepared, this update is going to contain lots of pictures.  Here's a reminder of what we started with...

Right now we've set this up a guest bedroom (wishful thinking for a future when we're allowed to have family & friends stay overnight again) but the flooring is all Ben's choice and I am very jealous of it!

Amy's Room

Is upstairs and we haven't really fitted this out yet other than to start putting in some wardrobes but there is a surprising amount of room in here given it's in the roof area

Nook

On the balcony overlooking the lounge area we have the Nook.  This is a magical little bit of space that we somehow managed to eek out of nothing.

We used to have a limited edition IKEA bookcase which was covered in Shakespeare quotes but they don't make it anymore so Amy had me create something similar.  These bookcases are covered with book quotes that all mean something special to her - really pleased how these turned out

Hope you like it.  It's kept us occupied during lockdown that's for sure and we've discovered skills we didn't know we had along the way.

Long time no post

It’s been a while hasn’t it. Since our last post in November we’ve done a lot more painting. There were areas which just didn’t look right so we had to do a tonne of touching up.

But today was a good day as we took delivery of the flooring.  Some awesome Marvel flooring for Ben’s bedroom (very jealous)

and some more subtle flooring for the rest of the house.

Let’s hope it works better than the flooring in Holly Barn which, let’s face it, was a disaster!

Painting!

So Steve and I have just finished a week off work and we spent most of it up to our elbows in paint!!

We've now finished all of the internal walls & ceilings - including having to hire a tower to reach the vaulted ceiling over the lounge which given my fear of heights was a bit of a battle for me.
